02 / Automation
CourtWatcher
Published judgments shouldn't require a daily trawl. CourtWatcher finds new Court of Session opinions, keeps the original material close at hand and delivers a concise digest for review.
The approach
Automate the repetitive work, preserve the route back to the source.
A scheduled service checks for new opinions, downloads and records them, creates structured summaries and sends a Word digest by email. The register and source documents stay durable, so a generated summary never becomes the only record.
Attached notes
What made it dependable
Measuring prompt improvements
Tested seven prompt iterations against a fixed set of 37 opinions, recording misses rather than choosing examples that happened to look convincing.
Making state durable
Used Azure Blob Storage for the register and downloaded opinions so scheduled runs remain repeatable and do not depend on one machine.
Treating delivery as part of the product
Added Microsoft Graph delivery and a readable Word digest, because a good summary has little value if it does not reach the person expecting it.
